Mt Whitfield Qld
Mount Whitfield Conservation Park is a forested range surrounded by Cairns suburbs. The conservation Park is a 300ha mountain range, home to rainforest, eucalyptus forest, grasslands and native wildlife. It is a popular place for hikers and locals looking for somewhere for exercising and to escape the pressures of daily life.
Mount Whitfield History
This important landmark lies in the traditional lands of the Gimuy Walabura Yidinji people. These Aboriginal people are the Traditional Owners of Cairns (from south of the Barron River) to Edmonton further south.
This much loved geographical feature was named after Edwin Whitfield, a Cardwell merchant who helped to fund the expedition of George Dalrymple, who led the colonial North-East Coast Expedition where Europeans identified Mount Whitfield.

There are three leafy suburbs in this area that have the mountain as a backdrop and we have grouped together:
Mount Whitfield Hike
With four unique and challenging trails, this is a great destination for both beginner and expert hikers. Short jaunts will provide plenty of stunning views, while longer overnight hikes allow for a deeper exploration of the region’s beauty.
The Four Arrow Walks
The Red Arrow, Blue Arrow, Green Arrow and Yellow Arrow are popular walking tracks that wind through the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park.
The Red and Blue Arrow circuits start from trail heads on Collins Avenue near the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre and one to the east of the Tanks Art Centre. The Green Arrow starts towards the top of the Blue Arrow loop, ending at Bel Air Drive, Whitfield. The Yellow Arrow starts on Aeroglen Drive, Aeroglen and also joins up to the Blue Arrow circuit track.

Distance: 1.5km return
Time: allow about 1hr walking time.
Blue Arrow (moderate)
Distance: 6km return
Time: allow about 4hr walking time.
Green Arrow (moderate)
Distance: 3km one way
Time: allow about 1.5hr walking time.
Yellow Arrow (moderate)
Distance: 1.9km return
Time: allow about 1.5hr walking time.
Whatever path you choose, make sure to take plenty of water and sunscreen – and don’t forget your camera! You will find incredible views that sprawl far and wide. It’s truly awe-inspiring and sure to take your breath away.
Mount Whitfield Camping
Camping is not permitted in the Conservation Park. Park users must also leave their pets at home, as domestic animals are not permitted in conservation parks.
