Ficus Melany

Ficus Melany care will help this stunning plant with its beautiful glossy leaves, reach its full potential. Indeed the ficus melany is well worth the effort.

This plant emerged from the tropics and is native to Southeast Asia. The leaves of this plant grow inside a sheath which grows larger as the new leaf develops. When the leaf matures it will fully unfurl.

Ficus Melany Care

Once they have settled into their new environment ficus are easy to care for. In addition, ficus melany is a beautiful, low-maintenance indoor plant.

Light

This ficus prefers bright indirect sunlight. However, placing this plant in direct sunlight for long periods will run a risk of burning the leaves of the plant. This plant will also cope quite well in lower light conditions.

Water

We find more damage is done by overwatering than under-watering. After all, over-watering can lead to serious issues for your plant, including fungal infections and root rot.

Indeed, the best way to proceed is to poke your finger into the top 5cm of soil. So if it feels wet, do not water!

Good ficus melany care is to water less during winter or the ‘dry season’ in the tropics.

Humidity

Don’t be afraid your air-conditioner (if you use one) will damage your plant. Indeed, provided you don’t make your house too ‘dry and cold’ it will be fine. If you do have a very dry environment, you can give it an occasional ‘misting’ but don’t overdo it.

However, if you live in the tropics, the hours your air-conditioner is not running, will give this plant added humidity. Consequently, that will not hurt it. Indeed it may give it a boost along.
